Capital Markets Training Programme
The First Derivatives Capital Markets Training Programme (CMTP) is a 2-year
development plan in which all FD employees participate. The CMTP is designed
to provide individuals with the skills and knowledge, both financial and
technical, which will enable them to perform at the level required by both
the Company and our clients.
FD places knowledge of financial s ahead of IT expertise as it is domain
expertise that gives the company its competitive advantage.
As part of the CMTP all new FD employees are required to successfully complete
an intensive financial training course before becoming involved in any
investment banking projects. This applies to both graduates and established
software engineers.
Training Structure
The training is split into three main areas:
- Finance
- Technology
- Consulting
Within the Finance and Technology areas individuals are placed in one of two
streams:
| 1. |
Capital Markets Stream
The capital markets stream works mainly in the fixed income market and with
generic technologies such as Java and C#.
Candidates in Stream 1 are encouraged to take the PRMIA
exams after 2 years
|
| 2. |
Kx Technology Stream
The kx stream works mainly in the equity and futures markets and will focus on gaining the necessary
skills to become a world class kdb+ consultant
|
Individual progress is reviewed on a quarterly basis and the programme may be tailored to reflect
the experience and knowledge of each new joiner.
The table below provides an overview of the key subjects our new joiners will be expected to master
during their 24 month training programme.

Performance Monitoring
Progress against all the components of the CMTP forms a large part of the First Derivatives
annual performance review.
It is made clear that CMTP progress will ultimately dictate salary and bonus levels, promotion prospects
and career development within First Derivatives.
