Pat Brazel
Chief Commerical Officer

Pat has over 25 years of experience working in the international financial software industry. He was President of SunGard’s Trading and Risk division for many years, a founder of GoldTIer Technologies (now part of Thomson Reuters – 2014) and chairman of Polarlake (now Bloomberg Polarlake – 2013). He was a non-executive director of First Derivatives for many years prior to joining the company in an executive capacity in 2015. He now leads the global Kx sales team.

He holds a Masters of Management Science from Trinity College. Pat is a member of the Board of the Dublin City University Educational Trust.
 

Gerry Buggy
Chief Strategy Officer

Gerry is an Innovative, technology executive with over twenty years of enterprise software and financial services experience. He was the Founder/Co-Founder of four technology companies each with a successful onward sale. His career spans Tibco, NEON, MSB, Thompson Reuters, Fundclear and he has acted as advisor to IONA, Objectstore, Wombat and the NYSE. Gerry has a unique knowledge mixture of the technology markets with strong industry connections, deep knowledge of, management, sales, marketing, technology and capital markets trading. Global work experience split between London, New York and California. He is a highly motivated entrepreneurial background with a complete understanding of running a focused organization delivering technology solutions.
 

Brian Conlon
Chief Executive Officer

Brian founded First Derivatives in 1996 and has led its development ever since. His background is in the capital markets sector where, following training with KPMG, he joined the risk management team in Morgan Stanley International, London. He then joined SunGard, a major global derivatives software house, as a capital markets consultant, during which time he worked with more than 60 financial institutions worldwide. He left in 1996 to set up First Derivatives.
 

Kevin Cunningham
Director

Kevin co-founded MRP in 2002. After years of successful growth in the US market, Kevin led the First Derivatives, PLC acquisition of MRP in 2008. Shortly after joining First Derivatives, Kevin was instrumental in establishing MRP’s presence in the European market. The Belfast office of MRP was launched in 2010 with less than 20 employees and has grown to more than 200. This presence has expanded MRP’s reach to include Europe, Middle East and Africa. In addition to his role as CEO, Kevin serves on the board of Executive Management for First Derivatives. Since 2007, he has also served on the Board of Trustees of Settlement Music School, the largest community school of the arts in the United States. Prior to founding MRP, Kevin held several sales and consulting positions with technology companies now owned by Infor and Oracle, and began his career with PriceWaterhouseCoopers. He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Delaware and earned his CPA license. Kevin enjoys music, cycling and traveling.
 

Graham Ferguson
Chief Finance Officer

Graham joined the Board of First Derivatives plc in September 2008 and has responsibility for the Group’s financial operations. He formerly held senior roles with KPMG, Bank of Ireland and Silverwood Property Developments Limited and is a Qualified Chartered Accountant. During his career he has worked on numerous corporate acquisitions and restructuring projects and has experience in business and acquisition finance.

 

Virginia Gambale
Non-Executive Director

Virginia joined the Board of First Derivatives plc in March 2015. A U.S. citizen, she is managing partner of Azimuth Partners LLC, which assists in the development of strategies for growth, innovation and international expansion. Prior to forming Azimuth, Virginia was a partner at Deutsche Bank Capital Partners and has also held senior management positions such as CIO at Merrill Lynch, Bankers Trust, Deutsche Bank and Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. Virginia is currently a Director of JetBlue Airways Corporation, the public company Regis Corporation, and is a member of the Advisory Board for Chicago Trading Company and Nutanix (leading Cloud Computing Provider).
 

Hugh Hyndman
Director, Industrial IoT Solutions

Hugh joined First Derivatives in April 2015, as part of the acquisition of Affinity Systems, a Toronto-based software company focusing on high-performance systems. During his career, Hugh has managed a number of successful companies in Canada, Singapore, UK, and Mexico. Hugh’s primary mandate is to expand the use of Kx technology into the the industrial verticals.

 

Keith MacDonald
Non-Executive Director

Keith is a Chartered Director, a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and a director of several companies with significant international operations. Keith was formerly the Global Head of Structured Corporate Finance for Lloyds Banking Group and possesses a wealth of knowledge of Capital Markets. Prior to joining Lloyds Bank Group, Keith had a 16-year career with Citigroup during which time he held a variety of senior positions in Europe and Asia including being Asia-Pacific Head of Structured Corporate Finance. He has been a director of First Derivatives plc since June 2011.
 

Keith O’Brien
Global Head of Capital Markets Consulting & Managed Services

Keith joined First Derivatives in 2015 and is responsible for our Capital Markets Consulting Division. He has more than 15 years leading industry experience of enabling innovative change in Capital Markets trading technology transformations including an extensive background with Global Services Delivery models. Prior to First Derivatives, Keith was a member of the Executive Committee at Calypso Technology and was instrumental in driving the growth of their Professional Services overseeing business development, solution delivery, managed services, product innovation and managing delivery teams throughout the U.S., Europe and APAC.
 

James O’Neill
Executive Director

Jim Joined First Derivatives in 2016. His background is in financial services with Price Waterhouse Coopers, Goldman Sachs and Barclays Capital – where he was Managing Director of the Global Risk Solutions Business. His banking focus was on Asset-Liability hedging and structuring with Financial Institutions, Multinational Corporations, Pension Funds and Sovereign Wealth Funds. Jim is a graduate of Queens University and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.
 

Jonathan Robson
Executive Director

Jon joined First Derivatives in 2015. Jon was founder and CEO of MoneyLine Telerate, a leading electronic trading and content technology business acquired by Reuters. Jon was CEO of Reuters Americas, President of the Thomson Reuters Enterprise Technology Division, and CEO of NYSE Technologies, a division of the New York Stock Exchange. Jon has served on the Executive Committees of Dow Jones Inc, Reuters Plc, Thomson Reuters Inc., The New York Stock Exchange, and as a non-executive director of ICAPplc (NEX), Omgeo Inc., The Partnership for New York, The British American Institute, and First Derivatives Plc.

 

Victoria Shanks
Executive Director

Victoria joined FD in 1998 following an Engineering Degree at Queens University Belfast and an MBA. Victoria worked as a Financial Engineer with FD in Dresdner Bank and Swedbank Markets for several years before joining the Business Development team in 2001. She now manages the Kx Services Business Globally and works with the Capital Markets Consulting Practise.

 

Mark Sykes
Chief Operating Officer, Kx

Mark manages Kx operations worldwide, as well as new initiatives. He joined Kx in 2015 with over 20 years’ experience in capital markets and data analytics. Previously, as Global Head of Algorithmic Solutions at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, he managed the quant, trading, and technology teams, and introduced the FX execution platform built on Kx. Prior positions include Director, Foreign Exchange at Citigroup, designing FX algorithmic execution strategies; and Director, Head of Algorithmic Trading at Deutsche Bank, implementing the bank’s first tick history database using Kx; and Partner in an active trading firm specialising in strategies based on Deep Learning methodologies.

 

Dave Thomas
Chief Scientist

As Chief Scientist Dave envisions the future roadmap for Kx tools. Dave has had a long and storied career in computer software development and is perhaps best known as the founder and past CEO of Object Technology International, formerly OTI, now IBM OTI Labs, a pioneer in Agile Product Development. He was the principal visionary and architect for IBM VisualAge Smalltalk and Java tools and virtual machines including the popular open-source, multi-language Eclipse.org IDE. As the cofounder of Bedarra Research Labs he led the creation of the Ivy visual analytics workbench. Dave is a renowned speaker, university lecturer and Chairman of the Australian developer YOW! Conferences.

 

Adrian Toner
Chief Operating Officer

Adrian initially joined the Board of First Derivatives plc in September 2005 as a Non-Executive Director. In July 2010 he joined the Executive Team as Chief Operations Officer and has responsibility for the Group’s Human Resources, Facilities Management and Corporate IT functions. Prior to joining First Derivatives plc, Adrian spent eighteen years with Allianz in London and Ireland where he became of Head of Allianz in Northern Ireland and Associate Commercial Director-Allianz Ireland plc. During his career he has developed expertise in directing and controlling organisational operations in accordance with the company’s strategy and growth objectives.
 

Donna Troy
Non-Executive Director

Donna has extensive experience in both senior executive and non-executive roles within multi-national technology companies. She has held division general management and sales leadership roles in organisations including IBM, McAfee, SAP, Dell and Epicor, delivering revenue and margin growth and implementing global go-to-market strategies. She currently holds non-executive roles at Pivot3 and TIBCO and is based in Austin, Texas. Donna joined the Board of First Derivatives plc in January 2018.
