I joined First Derivatives as a placement student in June 2014, working on product development for the Calypso team in Newry for 14 months. After completing my final year of Computer Science at Queens University Belfast, I returned to the Calypso practice as a graduate in 2016. An intense 6 weeks training program ensued, tailored to gain a skillset specific to the capital markets industry. Soon after, I moved to South Africa to join a major bank, working on production support in Johannesburg before transitioning to a role in London to lead the development of the implementation of a tax reporting customization in Calypso.

When the project finished, I moved to Stockholm Sweden where I am still based today. I have been working as a Calypso TA on an implementation of a front-office to back-office solution in Calypso. The goal of this project is to reduce costs & system complexity by decommissioning several legacy ledgers & migrating the vast majority of products into Calypso. This is a huge undertaking with a portfolio worth billions of SEK. The First Derivatives team continue to be an integral part of this project; an indication of the global footprint of First Derivatives. My work on these projects so far has ranged from environment management to integration & Java development, to team management; a testimony of the exposure & career acceleration available whilst working for First Derivatives.
