Why did you choose a career in Regulatory and Compliance Consulting with FD?
I joined First Derivatives’ Regulatory and Consulting practice after having earned my MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Prior to that, I had earned a BS in Finance at Providence College and worked for 10 years at Tier 1 Investment Banks. In my most recent role, I was a Vice President managing a team in the Finance department, covering Fixed Income and Currency Derivatives in New York. The Regulatory and Compliance practice at FD was a natural fit as I had strong knowledge of derivatives, trade lifecycles, and US regulatory reporting. I was seeking an opportunity to work with a broad group of product classes and stakeholders in helping firms navigate the complex and changing regulatory environment. FD had the resources, technology and institutional knowledge for me to grow and succeed.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
In the four years I have been with FD, the two things I enjoy most about my role as a Project Manager are the intellectual challenges of the regulatory space and the opportunities for relationship building. First, the challenge of deconstructing and understanding a regulation and how its implementation will impact an organization and its clients is both interesting and exciting. But, I especially enjoy forging strong, new relationships in the process of executing a successful solution with stakeholders – whether they be Clients or FD colleagues.
What does your current working day look like?
I am currently a Project Manager based in London working with the Front Office of a Tier 1 Global Investment Bank on implementation of the Volcker Rule. My typical morning may include meetings with Desk Heads or Risk Managers in APAC and EMEA, guiding them through regulatory reporting and documentation requirements. In the afternoon, I will host a call with New York based colleagues to discuss action items on Volcker Metrics Reporting, Desk Trading Mandate documentation, as well as strategy for onboarding other areas of the firm onto a centralized regulatory platform and methodology. Finally, I will develop or update presentations for Management Reporting in preparation for weekly team meetings and monthly Executive Steering Committee meetings.
